What makes Invisalign® Unique?
Invisalign is particularly useful for adults who might need braces but feel self-conscious about getting them because of the aesthetic impact. Instead of metal wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners. The aligners are practically invisible, so chances are people won’t even notice that you are wearing them.
It’s the perfect solution if you need to straighten your teeth but you don’t want the appearance of braces to affect your social or professional interactions. After all, many people associate traditional braces with childhood, so wearing them as an adult can make you self-conscious.
Invisalign brings comfort to orthodontic solutions
On top of that, braces are also fairly uncomfortable, and the wires and brackets make regular oral hygiene practices almost impossible. Plus, braces can get in the way of eating. With Invisalign, there is none of that. The plastic aligners can be removed at any time. This means they won’t interfere with eating and brushing your teeth, and it also means you can take them out temporarily if you have an important meeting or social engagement.
How Invisalign works
The process of Invisalign is fairly simple. First, an impression of the teeth is taken at our office in Harrison. Using computer software and three-dimensional imaging, a set of plastic aligners is custom-designed to move teeth into the correct position. The patient starts with one aligner then changes to a new one every few weeks. By the end of the series, teeth are straight and in their correct position.
If you have an overbite, underbite, crossbite or overcrowded teeth, Invisalign might be able to help, and the results in most cases are just as good as traditional metal braces. In fact, Invisalign is often able to achieve the same results in a faster period of time. Typical treatment involves 20 or more aligners, and they are worn constantly, removed only briefly for the sake of convenience, such as during meal times. Appointments are made every few weeks in order to switch out the aligners and track progress.
